Kirstie Alley Returning To TV In ABC

The newly-slimmed down former Cheers actress hasn’t been seen in scripted primetime since her shortlived Showtime series Fat Actress wrapped a few years ago, but we hear Kirstie is in final negotiations with ABC to star in a new comedy pilot tentatively titled The Manzanis.

Veteran television scribes Marco Pennette (Caroline in the City and Samantha Who?) and Dave Flebotte (Desperate Housewives) will contribute writing credits to the multi-camera comedy, which has been dubbed “a new take on ‘Roseanne.’” Kirstie, 60, has reportedly been cast as a “very opinionated wife/mother” who relocates her family to a “repressed country-club town.”

Alley has been riding the wave of a Betty White-esque career revival since she finished second on Season 12 of Dancing With The Stars earlier this year.
