Wedding specials are the new black: The femme-charged panel of The View will feature two newly married ladies when the ABC gabfest kicks off its 15th season next month. Just days after wisecracking pundit Joy Behar took the plunge and wed her beau of 29 years, her funny fellow panelist Sherri Shepherd is also basking in the afterglow of wedded bliss.
Portly TV writer Lamar Sally made an honest woman out of the former jilted bride during a formal ceremony in Shepherd’s native Chicago on Saturday. The couple Sherri, 44, had eight bridesmaids, including her fellow View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, ex-Clean House hostess Niecy Nash, and Yvette Nicole Brown of Community fame. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her son, Jeffrey.
Sherri kept her Twitter followers up to speed in the moments leading up to the ceremony: “Sitting in the room in my gown waiting for Sal& groomsmen to take their pics… Can’t let him see me b4 the wedding… but I’m bored as heck,” she Tweeted on Saturday afternoon.
“What happens when you are in your wedding dress and you have to tinkle?” she later added. “Uh-oh!”
The ink on the marriage license is barely dry, but The Style Network already plans to air a special about the newlyweds. The program, airing Sept. 12, “invites viewers behind-the-scenes to witness all the excitement, from the early planning stages to the romantic one-of-a-kind wedding ceremony,” the cable network said Thursday.
“In the special, viewers will see all the bridal drama and the mad rush of her planner as he organizes the numerous events, all leading up to the touching wedding vows between Sherri and her fiance,” the statement continued.
This Marriage No. 2 for Shepherd. The host of GSN’s The Newlywed Game, was previously married to actor Jeff Tarplay, who famously cheated on Sherri while she was pregnant with their now six-year-old son.
