Criminal is a very rare decent Hollywood remake of a foreign language film, the Argentinian Nine Queens. It stars that guy from Days of Thunder, Chicago and numerous other movies (John C. Reilly) and deals with the titular con man and his young and inexperienced partner trying to sell a fake Silver Certificate note to a rich collector in town. Hilarity and many plot twists ensue. Unlike the recent remake of vampire horror Let Me In, there was an actual point to remaking the original movie in the US, since few people will have seen it. It was also another chance to see the sexy Maggie Gyllenhaal on the big screen, so we for one aren’t complaining.
