Dakota Fanning will play the lead role in the Victorian film "Effie." Set in London in the 1850's, the movie portrays the turbulent married life of Euphemia (Effie) Gray and John Ruskin.
In spite of her great beauty, husband Ruskin didn't consummate the marriage in five years because he was disgusted with Effie's physique, prompting Effie to walk out of the marriage that was subsequently annulled.
Post an unpleasant marriage and bullying from her husband's parents, Effie found herself in love with his protege, painter John Everett Millais.
The film, reportedly costing $10 million, is being scripted by Academy Award winner Emma Thompson. Thompson will also essay the role of Lady Eastlake, a woman who takes pity on the teenage Effie when her marriage hits the rocks.
Greg Wise, Emma Thompson's real life husband, will play John Ruskin. Tom Sturridge will portray Fanning's love interest in the film.
Taping of the period piece is set to start October 17 in Venice, London, and Scotland, with the intention of launching it at the Venice International Film Festival in 2012.
Fanning, who featured in the last two installments of "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn", is currently shooting for "Now is Good" in London with Jeremy Irvine and Kaya Scodelario.
She also has two projects on hand, Mississippi Wild and Girls Night Out.
The 17-year-old SAG award winner was accepted to New York University and will be attending in the fall.
