Amy Winehouse “Back To Black” UK’s Best-Selling Album

Amy Winehouse is making a musical impact beyond the grave.

The late singer’s award-winning 2006 blockbuster — Back to Black — has overtaken James Blunt’s 2005 debut as the best-selling album of the century in the UK, the British Charts Company said Wednesday. Winehouse’s Back To Black, which featured the hits “Rehab,” “Me & Mr. Jones,” and “Tears Dry on Their Own,” has now sold 3,259,100 copies, according to figures released this week. By comparison, Blunt’s Back To Bedlam has sold 3,241,118 copies.

The album, the follow-up to Winehouse’ 2003 debut Frank, saw a huge spike in sales after Amy was found dead in her North London home on July 23. She was 27. Though Winehouse battled with alcohol and drugs throughout her life, toxicology tests showed no illegal substances were in her system at the time of her death. A full inquest into her death is due to be held on Oct. 26.

Music legend Tony Bennett, who recorded a duet with Amy shortly before her death, will lead a tribute to the star at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. Bennett, 85, will introduce a special video tribute of him recording with Winehouse at Abbey Road Studios in March as they sang “Body And Soul” for his Duets II album, dropping next month.
