The hunt is on for a unknown group of assailiants who attacked the singer in New York City’s East Village early Monday. It’s not clear what led to the attack or how many individuals were involved, cops say, but Gavin was reportedly “highly intoxicated” at the time and did not initially report the assault to police. He eventually told cops that several White and Hispanic men assaulted him as he left a restaurant along First Avenue between 5th and 6th Sts. DeGraw suffered a broken nose and cuts to his face in the melee and remains hospitalized in stable condition at Manhattan’s Bellevue Hosptial Center, according to New York Police spokesman Lieutenant John Grimpel.
DeGraw, 34, is best known for his song “I Don’t Want to Be” — opening theme for the longrunning CW soap One Tree Hill — and his single “Chariot.” Despite his injuries, the touring star is still scheduled to open for Maroon 5 and Train at the Comcast Center this weekend.
